2023 World Basketball day

Cheers to the hoops, the dreams, and the everlasting love for basketball!

December 21st is officially recognized as the International Basketball Day. This day honors the historic moment in 1891 when the first basketball game took place. Organized by Professor James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, the game was played in the YMCA gymnasium at Springfield College in Massachusetts.

James Naismith, a physical education teacher, wrote the rules for this game with the aim of training football players during the winter season. In the beginning, the game was played using peach baskets as the target, and someone had to climb a ladder and get the ball out after each basket. Players used a simple soccer ball. The first dedicated basketball, distinct from a soccer ball, was introduced in 1894 and originated from a bicycle tire factory.
